WHAT IS A COTTAGE SCHOOL?
Cottage School is an alternative form of education in which children are taught by one or more teachers at a location outside the home for a limited time during the week. The rest of the student's week is spent in in other activities, programs or at home. Some Cottage School teachers may even give assignments to be done at home.

Even though it has the word "school" in it's name, The PT Cottage School Co-op is not is not a SCHOOL in that it does not keep school records or collect shot records. It is a place children can learn while still relying on the parents as the primary provider of their education.
WHY USE A COTTAGE SCHOOL?
Cottage schooling has come about primarily because of the need among many home schoolers for outside teachers, limited exposure to a classroom and, time for kids to work in a group environment with other kids.

In a cottage school, students come together in small groups for a few classes or partial days. The cost to educate a child in a cottage school is typically much less than that available from a private school and the education is typically much better.
OUR CLASS GUIDES
Amber Jones
Born in Kirkland, Washington, I have been a Peninsula Resident for 20-something years,
long enough to raise 4 grown PT kids (with 1 still home). I live in Port Townsend and enjoy family, being in the forest, theatre, music and general merry-making.
I am a passionate guide and mom, who finds great joy in learning myself. My first experience teaching kindergarten was 24 years ago when I decided to become a homeschool mom. Since then I have taught in several schools for young children, including Reggio Emilia and Montessori-inspired settings. I have put extensive independent study into many theories on early childhood education and development as well as formal education in early childhood education, psychology, child development, art, history, and many other topics
